When you hit the gym you will find that the chest is one of the most targetted regions of all of the muscle groups. However if you were to look at these same people when they are working out back home they spend a much shorter amount of time working out their chest than they do in the gym.
Chest workouts at home do not need to be boring, there are a massive number of things you can do besides the standard pushup.
Now this article isn’t about your training routine, i’m not going to tell you how many reps of these exercises to perform or what to mix them with, that is upto you, your trainer and your specific goals.
I will give one piece of advice though, make sure you don’t overdo it and start looking big and bloated like modern day bodybuilders (unless that’s what you want, hey to each his own). Try aiming for the Shrink Wrap Effect were your muscles have maximum definition and in all honesty look awesome. Click here to learn more about the Shrink Wrap Effect and how to get lean muscle without getting ridiculously bulky (hint watch the two videos on that page).
What I am going to tell you in this article is some of the more intense home chest workouts that you can use in your training to start showing better results.

Pushup Variations
Now I know I said before that you don’t need to be performing the standard pushup, and I was right. Pushup Variations allow you to increase the intensity of the pushup and target specific areas on your body while you are doing it. Check out this article were I tell you 19 Pushup Variations you can perform in your workouts.
The best one I feel for a good chest workout has to be the:
Box Push Up -- Home Chest Workout
To do this variation you will need two sturdy boxes seperated a few feet apart. What you do is position yourself in the middle of the two boxes and perform a pushup. Then when you reach bottom position explode upwards and land your hands on either box. Now perform another pushup this time when you reach bottom position push off again and land on the ground.
Effectively you are doing 2 pushups per rep here one on the ground and one of the boxes.
Decline Push Up -- Home Chest Workout
With this exercise you will rest your legs on a surface, preferably only a couple of feet off the ground. Then you will perform a pushup. When you get to the bottom position hold it there for a few seconds so you can feel the intensity in your chest.
For those of you looking to perform more advanced bodyweight exercises for the chest you may consider using a suspension device for increased resistance and intensity
Dumbbell Home Chest Workouts
Obviously not all of you have dumbbells in your home to workout with, but those of you who do will find the following exercises bring pretty decent results for your chest.

Dumbbell Flyes -- Home Chest Workout
For this exercise you are going to lay down on a flat surface. You should have one dumbbell in each hand with your arms spread wide, palms facing the ceiling.
Now you need to bring your arms in towards each other in an arc motion until your arms are sticking out toward the ceiling.
It is important during this exercise that you keep your arms bent slightly at the elbows to avoid strain on that area and to maximise the effect on your chest.
Dumbbell Bench Press -- Home Chest Workout
Who says you need to be at a gym to do bench presses? Just because you do not have access to a barbell does not mean presses are out of the question. When performing dumbbell bench presses you lay flat on a bench or the floor, holding the dumbbells straight out in front of you. Then lower the dumbbells down in an up/down not an arcing motion like previous.
Chest Workouts at Home
So these were just a few of the more intense chest workouts that you can perform at home with minimal equipment. Hopefully it has proven to you that you are able to get as good a workout from the comfort of your own home than you can get from the gym.
If you are serious about getting into shape and definitely do not want that massive bodybuilder look then you should take a look at Rusty Moore’s Visual Impact Muscle Building Course. Instead of making you bulk out Rusty teaches you how you can get lean muscle so you are still somewhat slim but have incredible definition. Rusty likes to call this the ‘Hollywood Look’ because he teaches you to get the type of body that all the A-list stars have in the movies, you know massively defined but not overly big.
