As was mentioned in the post ‘How to Lose Belly Fat‘. It is impossible to target belly fat when you are burning fat. This means that if you put all of your effort into performing ab workouts you are going to lose the belly fat just as fast as if you were doing full body workouts.
This is because your body does not burn fat in the same place that you workout, it burns fat from all over the body instead.
This doesn’t mean that you should give up on ab exercises altogether because while you wont get any additional belly fat burning you will develop your abdominal muscles which will give your whole stomach area a much more defined and toned look, even if you still have belly fat.
The problem with a lot of ab exercises is the impact that it has on the spine. That is why I recommend that if you are going to be doing ab workouts that you also perform some back strengthening exercises as well. This is were hip raises come in, they work out the glutes and are great for the lower back.
The video below shows some good form when performing Hip Raises. I don’t have a clue why she is doing this exercise on the beach, that would just be awkward with all the sand!
