While performing research for two posts on this site: How to Lose Belly Fat and Exercises to Lose Belly Fat I kept hearing about the Vacuum Pose and how it can help with belly fat loss. Now to begin it should be known that no exercise can target belly fat specifically. Instead exercise burns fat from all over the body in a genetically determined way. So performing the vacuum pose may target the abs and will help lose belly fat as it helps lose overall body fat as well.
To be honest with you as well this was the first time I had ever heard of either of the Vacuum Pose being used as a fat loss exercise.
For those that do not know what the vacuum pose is I have included a video demonstrating it below:
So that’s it. Doesn’t look like much does it? But when I was researching belly fat loss this was one of the most common things to pop-up. Strange right?
Anyway even after further research on the subject I can’t find much information about its fat loss benefits so I am asking you guys what you think.
Have you used the vacuum pose before? Did it work? Did it not work? Do you think it’s crazy? Share your feeling/questions/comments in the comments section below…

I’ve just been doing it for a while and it didn’t seem to be working anything at all. In fact I think it may have squashed my organs (N)

I’m not a bodybuilder, but I know this exercise well. It is part of the breathing technique in the Bodyflex system. The Bodyflex creator (Greer Childers) doesn’t use the name “vacuum pose” so I didn’t realize until recently that it is something people have been using for ages.
But anyway, when I’m doing it regularly, I lose a couple inches off my waist very quickly. Plus most other women I’ve talked to who have used the Bodyflex system have had similar results. I’ve also found that when I use the breathing system with whatever other exercises I’m doing that day, that the results are about 3 times greater than doing the exercises alone. I don’t know if that is from the vacuum pose, or just the increased oxygenation from the deep breathing. Probably the latter.

I’ve just written a post on this exercise actually. Seriously, it does work. The reason being that the muscles you use to suck your stomach in, the Transverse Abdominis, will act as a girdle when you develop them. I know crunches and fancy ab gadgets get a lot more attention but it is worth giving this exercise a try.
